The yellow color below the symbol mark signifies Hwangsanbeol, while the blue color above the symbol mark represents the sky. The letter, O, in “NONSAN,” was accentuated with an image of the sun, while the letter, “A,” depicts a mountain. The symbol mark, as a whole, shows that there is a blue sky above the vast field of Hwangsanbeol, and depicts the peaceful and beautiful environment of Nonsan, with the bright sun and the greenness. For English characters, “NONSAN,” a unique font that exudes a sense of freedom and stability was used to capture the characteristics of the residents of Nonsan.
The mascots of Nonsan were designed based on the strawberry, which is one of the best-selling products of the city. These adorable characters have been given cute names, which are Noni and Sani, to make them seem friendly and approachable.
The mandarin duck, designated as Natural Monument No. 327, symbolizes harmony, as the male and female pairs stay together for life. Every year, the largest number of mandarin ducks come to Wangam Reservoir (located in Gayagok-myeon) in Nonsan out all places in Korea to pass the winter. They symbolize “Friendly and Harmonious Citizens.”
The forsythia, commonly grown for ornamental use and as a hedge, flowers in April. These yellow blossoms are the first flower to announce the arrival of the spring season, and symbolize “hope for the future,” as their name mean “opening a new day.”
There are a large number of zelkova trees at the entrance of the city, creating a densely green area. The wood is very hard and beautifully glossy. As a massive tree, the zelkova symbolizes the grandness of our city.
